I find myself doodling away on the commute to work with sketchbook pro mobile. It does have to compete with a couple of other apps (layers, brushes, etc). I believe its going to come out on top when the iPad hit stores.

To sketchbook pro or not, that is a silly question.

Autodesk SketchBook pro, also referred to as SketchBook, is drawing software that features a gesture-based user interface. It was originally developed by Alias Systems Corperation, but is now owned by Autodesk

SketchBook pro has an uncluttered interface, and painting and drawing tools such as pencils, markers, and brushes. Because it makes use of the pressure-sensitivity features of Wacom Tablets, tablet PCs, and iPhones, it can help artists sketch and create effects similar to traditional materials.

Autodesk Sketchbook Pro software also features a screenshot tool for annotation, allowing one to show content during a meeting and add notes as the content is reviewed. The Previous/Next buttons make it possible to create flipbooks or animations. The program supports layers with import and export of Photoshop (.psd) format. Other features include rulers, symmetry, the ability to customize brushes, create texture brushes, and rotate the canvas.

There are SketchBook Pro communities on Twitter and Facebook as well as Autodesk's AREA online community.

When Autodesk acquired Alias in October 2005, they discontinued Sketchbook Pro development for a while. Version 2.0 was released in July 2005 (under Alias Systems Corporation).

A beta version of version 3.0 was shown at MacWorld 2008 on display with the Axiotron Modbook. On April 2008, Autodesk SketchBook Pro 2009 was released to the public. In April 2009, the latest version was released, Autodesk SketchBook Pro 2010. Autodesk continues to have a beta program for testing new versions of SketchBook Pro.

A free trial version is available on the Autodesk website. Additionally, a consumer version of the application, SketchBook Express, is available as a free download with the purchase of certain tablet products, such as the Wacom Intuos4 and the Axiotron Modbook. SketchBook Express provides much of the same functionality as Autodesk SketchBook Pro.

On September 17, 2009, Autodesk released SketchBook Mobile specifically designed for Apple's iPhone and iPod touch. Built with the same paint engine as Pro, Mobile and its free version Mobile Express offers many of the same design features seen in the desktop application.

I use Sketchbook Pro 2010, and I am a big fan of the software.

Its is amazing and I cannot wait to see 2011's improvement. crossfingers.
